March 2025
Dear Wastewater Professionals,
One
of the most rewarding aspects of WPWPCA is our ability to support and
invest in the future of our industry. A key way we do this is through
our Scholarship Program, which provides financial assistance to students
and operators pursuing careers in water and wastewater management.I’m
pleased to announce that the 2025 WPWPCA Academic and Operator
Scholarship applications are now available on our website! The deadline
for submission is April 15, 2025, at 3:00 PM—so if you or someone you
know could benefit, now is the time to apply! The
Academic Scholarship is available to WPWPCA members and their immediate
family members (spouse or child) who are pursuing higher education.
Recipients are selected based on academic achievement, extracurricular
and community involvement, an essay response, and WPWPCA member
engagement. The Association may award up to three $3,000 Academic
Scholarships this year!The
Operator Scholarship is designed to support WPWPCA members who are
current wastewater operators or seeking to enter the profession. It
helps cover the costs associated with obtaining a PA Operator’s
License or Certification. The Association will award up to $2,500 in
Operator Scholarships to help further careers in this critical field. These
scholarships are more than just financial assistance—they are an
investment in the professionals who will sustain and advance our
industry for years to come. I strongly encourage all eligible members to
apply and take advantage of this opportunity. If
you're looking for a way to support our Scholarship Program while
having some fun, then our upcoming Sporting Clays Shoot is the perfect
opportunity! Proceeds from this exciting event will go directly toward
funding our scholarships, ensuring we can continue to invest in the
future of our industry. Whether you're a seasoned shooter or a
first-timer, this event is a great way to connect with fellow members
and contribute to a great cause. The Sporting Clays Shoot will take
place on April 25th at Hunting Hills Shooting Preserve. Refer to our
website to register today! If you have any questions about the scholarship program, please reach out to Dennis Duryea, Scholarship Committee Chair, at dduryea@kvwpca.org or Lori Rodkey, Co-Chair, at lorir@utmapa.org.I
look forward to celebrating this year’s recipients and seeing the next
generation of water and wastewater professionals grow! As a final
reminder, I hope to see you at our first event of the year, the 2025
WesTec Conference on Friday April 4th!!
Warm Regards,
Robert Herring, PE, PMP
